Classic Cottage Style

Classic Georgian bar windows are often the most appropriate style of glazing for cottages or traditional homes suggests John Lannen.

The limitations of glass technology and the rate of window tax meant small pane windows were the norm in cottages and period houses. Until the arrival of plate glass in the nineteenth century most windows were, by necessity, constructed from a timber frame divided by glazing bars into multiple panes of glass.

If you’re looking to replicate this style of window in your home you now have several options. Purists will always argue that timber is the most suitable material but even some traditional architects now recognise how convincing some upvc products are in replicating the appearance of wood.

If you want to maximise the thermal efficiency of your home, and minimise maintenance, the Evolution range offers a superb solution in terms of balancing comfort and aesthetics.

Known as the original timber alternative, this range offers the slimmest window on the market with the greatest glazed area. With its unrivalled wood grain finish it resembles timber in shape, colour and traditional handmade craftsmanship.

Meticulously designed with painstaking profiling to the casement, a wide choice of colours (including a heritage range) and optional features such as leaded glass and working monkey tail handles, the range faithfully replicates historic joinery skills.

Solid looking sill proportions are similar to historic timber products; a putty finish bar details the exterior of the window; unique weather bars provide for discreet trickle ventilation and you can choose from a high quality range of handles and working peg stays for an authentic look.

The range is manufactured in Great Britain, not welded or mass produced, but put together with time and care, by one or two people working around a bench.

With an A+ energy rating, Evolution windows also offer exceptional performance. Taking the best from the past, this innovative range can help enhance and protect your home now, and for years to come, whilst being virtually maintenance free.

Whether you decide that timber or upvc is right for you, all our products come with the promise of top quality installation, a standard ten year guarantee and a free annual inspection for peace of mind.
